At this time of year we have all probably seen a sister, brother, cousin, friend, momma, daddy, somebody, graduate from college. For those of you who have not yet graduated or on your way to college next year, here are a few areas of study that you may want to consider in order to get that gwap upon receiving your diploma.

No. 10: Computer Networking and Telecommunications
This area of study involves the design, installation, and improvement of computer networks and software. Degree holders often work as network engineers, computer systems administrators, and web developers. African Americans in this field can expect to earn an average salary of $54,000. The study found that White Americans in this same field earn an average of $56,000.

No. 9: Medical Technologies Technicians
Medical technologists perform clinical laboratory testing that is key to the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases. Degree holders often work as cytotechnologists, microbiology technologists, and molecular biology technologists. African Americans in this field can expect to earn an average salary of $55,000, while White Americans in this same field earn an average of $58,000.

No. 8: Architecture
Architects are trained in building design and develop the concepts for structures. African Americans in this field can expect to earn an average salary of $55,000, while White Americans in this same field earn an average of $65,000

No. 7: Management Information Systems and Statistics
Those in this field oversee all technical aspects of an organization, such as network security and Internet operations. Degree holders often work as computer information systems managers, directing the work of other Information Technology (IT) professionals. African Americans in this field can expect to earn an average salary of $56,000, while White Americans in this same field earn an average of $70,000.

No. 6: Nursing
African Americans in this field can expect to earn an average salary of $60,000. Unlike the other areas of study listed, White Americans earn the same average salary

No. 5: General Engineering
Engineers have more than 17 specialties to choose from. Degree holders often work as chemical engineers, electrical engineers, and mechanical engineers. African Americans can expect to earn an average of $60.000, while White Americans earn an average of $76,000.

No. 4: Computer Science
African American computer science degree holders earn an average of $61,000. White Americans with the same degree earn an average of $80,000.

No. 3: Information Sciences
This field involves the collection, analysis, manipulation, classification, storage, retrieval, and dissemination of information. African American degree holders can expect to earn an average of $65,000, while White Americans with this degree earn an average of $70,000.

No. 2: Mechanical Engineering
African American degree holders can expect an average salary of $65,000, while White Americans can expect $83,000.

No. 1: Electrical Engineering
If earning potential is at the top of your list, then this is the degree for you. African Americans can expect to earn an average salary of $68,000. However, even though this is the highest-paying degree, the study found that African Americans earn $22,000 less than Whites and $12,000 less than Asians with the same major.
